Day 15 Annan to Berwick upon Tweed

So the rain was relentless and on all night. We got up and asked the kids how they slept. Poor Becca’s sleeping bag was soaked aswell as some of her clothes. The tent had a leak. One corner had a puddle. This happened before and it turned out to be juice that had been spilt but after checking we don’t think it was juice. Her sleeping bag was soaking. Never mind, we thought we won’t need it until we are home. Wrap it up and got everything packed away. Just as we were set to leave the campsite I plugged in my phone to a message from the lady who had offered us accommodation. The previous day she had asked if we wanted her to get food in for us. We didnt want to put her out anymore than we had already as she had guest staying in her air bnb. So we told her we were going to just grab dinner on the way over somewhere as a last super. Unfortunately she took this quite personally and thought we were having dinner in Duns where she stays and not inviting her out with us, giving she was letting us stay the night. Anyway she said she thought it best she withdraw the accommodation. I got quite upset over this. Not once have I ever not be grateful for someone’s kindness and I certainly wasn’t being unappreciative. I think us trying to be nice and not trouble her has backfired into her thinking we were being unappreciative. Anyhoo, nothing we could do. After I sent her a message to explain what we meant and that she certainly got the wrong idea of us. We set off in the pouring rain with somber moods and no real direction on where we would be staying.

We stopped off in Gretna for breakfast. I told Bobby it was still bothering me. I hate the idea of her thinking we were ungrateful. At this stage I wasn’t even fussed about having no accommodation. Bobby said not to let it bother me as it was just a breakdown in communications. So I tried to push passed it but driving along those country roads it just kept playing in my head. We stopped for fuel and a drink in Kelso about lunch. Bobby was now feeling down about it and we had to start thinking about where we would stay. After lots of searches alot of sites were booked out and some available but no facilities to dry sleeping bags etc. We could possibly stop at Coldstream but it was a bit short on where we would like to be for our final drive home tomorrow. We continued on and stopped off at Coldstream anyway. The lady came out and asked us to move the tuktuks but after she realised why we stopped she tried to see if she could offer us a pod for the night but they were all booked up. She also offered to phone some accommodation places ahead. I thanked her for her help and we continued onto Berwick upon Tweed. The sun came out briefly and the rain had stopped. I think by the time we arrived which was around back of 4, 5ish we were tired, damp and cold and just wanted to rest without having to think where we could get the sleeping bag dry. Anyhoo we managed to book into the travel lodge for the night. Feel like I’m cheating but not at the same time, as tonight we would have been in a house anyway. We have just mostly been on our phones tonight, watching TV and a cheeky game of cards. Grabbed a mcds as its right next door and we just didn’t feel in the mood to go for dinner elsewhere as we are all exhausted and mood is a bit low. We are determined tomorrow will be a better day and that after a good night rest and a fresh shower in the morning we will be fired up for the final day of this amazing adventure

Not the best of days, abd the grey weather didnt help either. What a shame about tge mis communication, I’m not surprised it played on your minds all day. I hope you can put it behind you and wake up energised tomorrow, your final day! You have had an amazing journey, spread the awareness of the EMCT, met some fabulous people along the way, and raised funds for the trust. A big well done! Dig in for tomorrow, and a safe journey for the final leg β€οΈπŸ›ΊπŸ›ΊπŸ
