It did rain last night again but it has gone off by morning time. The usual shammy dry tent and we were off on the road towards Annan.
Our first stop would be a little shop in Wigtown, where we would get some breakfast. I had a bacon roll and the others had a breakfast pie. That was a first for them. Bobby enjoyed it that much he went back to thank the guy who owned the wee shop. We had a few locals stop for a chat and got a couple of donations. The people down this corner of our country have been incredibly nice and not thought twice about donating. They are so very warming to chat to. The little villages throughout these areas are lovely. Large squares where all the shops are and the streets open really wide. This is seemingly because years ago there would be large gates at either side of the village and cattle would be locked in the centre over night so the streets were always wider in the centre. Onwards we continued towards twynholm where we planned to visit the cocobean factory to grab some chocolate. It was more for kids but we visited the shop and got some unusual bits of chocolate. The sun was out now and the drive was nice. Today wasn’t about the driving it was all the little villages we were in awe of as we passed them by. In Kirkcudbright we stopped by the dark space planetarium. This was an education interactive centre, where you could learn about space. They also took us to the planetarium where we learnt about stars and space a bit more indepth. Even Dechlan learnt some new things, so if your ever in the area it’s worth a visit. Time was ticking so we continued on full steam ahead, stopping of at Sweet Heart Abbey. It was under construction so couldn’t go view it in more detail but was nice to see it even from a distance.
We finally arrived at broomfisheries. Long drive, tired and sore we were glad to be at our site. The fishery looked lovely but the camping pitch field for us was quite a distance from the fishery and was on a field next to an abandoned disused building. There was a shrek like shed that had a composting toilet. It looked like it hadn’t been used in a long time. As we sat for a few minutes deciding where to pitch we were swarmed with flys everywhere. Bobby went to check out the composting toilet and reported it was full of spiders. It had been a long day and we just needed a bit more comfort so decided to leave and try and find another site. Into Annan we went. Feeling a bit dejected we were determined to find somewhere else. One site was closed and didn’t look overly friendly so we headed a bit north to Bruce’s Cave Caravan and camping near Lockerbie. This is when the night would take a turn for the better. The site was lovely and straight away we felt very welcomed. £25 for the tent and all 4 of us was cheap. Once we had paid the owner come flying in took £40 out the till and donated it to the charity. What a start. It gets better! We move around to our pitch while getting alot of attention on the way around. 2 lovely ladies popped out to offer us an electric pump for the tent and we got chatting. They asked us all about our adventure and the charity. At this point I had noticed the roof rack bracket had snapped. This caused the roof rack to fall and pierce into the roof of Tilly (Bobby’s tuktuk). The roof rack was now not secure. The kindness increased again when the ladies partner come back. They had dinner in hand but put that down to try come to a resolution. They got other campers on the site invovled, one who was a welder but of course he was on holiday so didn’t have his equipment. We eventually all came up with a fix and me and Bobby put it into action until we could get it welded again when home. Once sorted, John(one of the guys) offered us a beer and chatted away. We got a donation and he said he would ensure we got more. We decided to take some of the people on the site a wee ride in the tuktuks and it was amazing. So many people on the site were so friendly and donated. We drove passed a lady, her daughter and dog. Both times we beeped and waved and to our amazement a donation came in on the just giving page from them later that evening. It was incredible. The previous dejected us had now gone. Thats all thanks to the generosity and show of human kindness by everyone on this campsite. I think its safe to say next time we are in the area we will pass by here. Take away ordered and exhaustion setting in, we took a stroll around the campsite and the cave closeby. The rain was starting so we got settled in the tent with our pizza and chips. Im just so thankful that we found this site and got chatting to the amazing people on it
