Day 13 Maidens to Sorbie

Well the sleep on the farm field was cold and we were awoken at 6:30am with locals who had come to let their horses out the stables so it was all very noisy. The toilet wasn’t the best. £10 per person, if you were a biker I suppose it would be good but for us, £40 was way over priced.

Once organised we headed to Trump Hotel in Turnberry. Bobby had called them yesterday evening to see if they would be happy with us popping by and getting a picture. We had hoped there would be some Americans playing golf in the area and show some interest but it was pretty quiet just a few taxi drivers. Was beautiful place, you would definitely think you were in America. The bright white building aswell as the many apartments and complexes. There is a bit history in that the Americans had a base in the area during World War 2. It seems like its quite a golf resort now in comparison to a war hospital all those years ago.

Onwards we continued on the long road down to Stranraer. We stopped at a small independent garage called Shellknowe In Ballantrae. Straight away the owners came out and asked to take pictures, gave us a donation and refuse to take money for fuel. Absolutely amazing start to the day. Sun was out and their kindness set the tone. Encouraged, we continued down passed the 2 ferry boats heading to Ireland. We were lucky both were in port. We stopped off at Stoneykirk at the coastal cakes to grab a cup of tea. The lady was every so kind and told us to donate the cash we were due into the charity box on her behalf. What a day. Everyone was being incredibly kind. We sat close by at a coastal front having our cup of tea watching out into the ocean while having a rest from the long drive. A nice gentleman came for a chat and put some penny’s in the tub. Sun was splitting the sky’s and we continued onwards toward our stop off for the night. Driving out around the little coastlines of the south was surprisingly nice. The edges were scattered with large rocks and rocky Stone beaches. It was fair to say farming was still very much part of the economy with lots of sheep and cow farms. As we followed the coastal road around some lovely bend, we were hit by the smell of dung and at times the seaweed. We approached a little village called Whithorn and stopped by the local shop where we had a nice chat with the lady working there and some of her customers. Some money was put in the tin by them and passer bys. One gentleman who turned out to be the local Minister invited us to the church for a cup of tea and blether. Not to turn kindness down,  off we went to the local St Ninians Church where we got some tea and spoke to some of the people there. It was so lovely to just sit and blether to complete strangers learning about them and vice versa. The ministers grandchildren got some pictures in the tuktuks. We received a few donations and I also got a little book mark from a lady who was in the church. Picture taken and off we headed towards our pitch up for the night at Drumroamin Farm where we had been offered accommodation for the evening.

What a beautiful site, lovely owners facilities. We cooked breakfast in there outdoor seating/cooking area. I got on with some washing as we were running short of smalls. We then headed for a game of pool while Bobby got the drone up for a bit..winds picked up a bit and as the sun was going down it began to get a bit cooler. We sat in the games area in comfort and reminiscing about some of the trip. Was a great laugh.
