Day 1 & 2

Nervous, anxious and excited all in one. It had finally arrived. The months of planning had been hard going but the adventure was now here. Fueled up and raring to go we got an amazing send off from family and friends along with the local press. It took us until Dysart to realise we forgot Dechlans head phones, so quick nip into Leven for new ones and a cheeky mcdonalds breakfast. We had a lovely policewoman come over and chat, our first interaction of the trip. She took some pictures and said she would share it around the station. Motivation high, we got back on the road up to St Andrews. So so busy, lots of people and nowhere to park. We eventually found a wee spot where the gala had been that day. Put the sign up and we took a good few people out a ride in the tuktuks and handed out a few leaflets to others. Time was getting on so we headed straight towards the tay bridge following our planned route. Lots of waves and beeps along the way spurred us onto Montrose where we had a planned stop at the Fordmill Care Home. This was when it got real, these elderly people came out and got a ride in the tuktuk. The determination of some of these people to get in the back was great. It’s not easy and a small space but they all made it. The highlight for us was Jean, a 101 year old lady, in the back of a tuktuk. Giving her a once in lifetime opportunity, in return making our day give us the same in return. Let that sink in….101 years of age and riding in the back of tuktuk, living life to the full. Onto Miltonhaven Caravan Park, the owners were lovely enough to offer us free accommodation. After a sketchy steep drive down in the rain, we arrived. The owners pleasant and helpful. Beautiful games room kept us entertained at night after we used there onsite camping kitchen which was loaded with everything you would need. Tucked up in bed the rain continued through the night but we were rested by the morning.

DAY 2 started gloomy, very misty and we had to get the flashing lights on before we hit the road. Through Stonehaven then onto Aberdeen. We stopped off at the beach for a breakfast roll but there wasn’t anywhere suitable to offer rides in the tuktuks. We decided then that it was time to have a rest from driving and head for some family fun at Codonas. Amusements and crazy golf were great fun, especially now the sun was out splitting the sky’s. We spent more time than expect, as they say time flys when your having fun. We soon hut the road again. I was aiming for Peterhead to meet a young lady who I supported by the trust but unfortunately she wasn’t to well that day so didn’t get the chance to see her. Peterhead was very heavy rain so we didn’t stop for long before we continued north towards fraserburgh and then our campsite at ACDC Glamping. The day had been very uneventful but that was about to chance. What a beautiful site and the most lovely owners. They had a friends 75th birthday party and as much as we were invited, I felt a bit unsure gate crashing. In the end they all ended up coming to see the tuktuks. We started giving all the guest rides down to the local beach, BTW it was beautiful and we would never have gone down to it had we not done these rides as it was off route..win win for everyone. We joined everyone having a fee beers as we watched the sun set. Another camper grabbed his guitar and started playing and singing and everyone joined in. I have never felt so in love with life and the coming together of complete strangers. Singing while the sun set. Soon the firepit was on and we all sat chatting. Met a Swedish traveller too. This is what amazes me, the connections you make with people when doing such a challenge. So far it’s been overwhelming, amazing and memories are being made but most importantly.fun, awareness and donations all for a great cause. We can’t wait for the next few days ๐Ÿ™‚
