Today we took a trip up to Crail Raceway. They were kind enough to invite us along to their Tora Tora Banzai day. Thankfully we woke up to a glorious day. This day would be the further we would have travelled in the Tuk-Tuk’s. Having not really been familiar with car sports or Crail Raceway, other than the continuous updates on what my brother Chris has done to his car(he will love the mention), both of us were a little anxious and unsure what to expect. We set off, fuelled up at Morrison’s in Kirkcaldy then set the timer on the phone to see how long it would take to get there. After a glorious drive along the coastline of fife we could see the huge volume of cars parked up along the shoreline. We were here and could sense the buzz around the place. Timer checked and to our amazement we managed the 30mile drive in 1hr and 10mins. That’s faster than we expected, giving us a sense of relief that maybe we can enjoy some beauty spots along the way when doing our challenge. We navigated our way through the souped up sports cars and parked up on the show and shine area. Felt way out of place but they got the attention with plenty of people picturing and asking questions. Becca and Dechlan spend more of their time over at the drag strip watching the long stream of drag races, over and over. Not once was it ever boring. These cars travelled at unbelievable speeds. All of us in were in awe of a blue Audi RS3 which went down the ¼ mile in 9.1 seconds. This was incredible, speeds I have never witnessed with my own eyes before. 2:30 PM and it was time for our turn down the drag strip. Anxiety was rising as we were unsure what sort of response we would get. This was all just for publicity and a bit fun and by god it was just that. The lights flickered 3,2,1…..off we went, felt fast inside but for those watching very slow in comparison to what they had been witnessing. I recall leaning forward as far as I could in the hope that I would make little Tuk’er go faster. Afterwards I even thought Becca’s video had been put into slow motion! Turns out nope, it was exactly as it was, we really were that slow! The fun we had and the buzz afterwards was what we had hoped, fun for us, publicity for the charity. Bobby driving Tilly took the win in 35 seconds…..again faster than anyone thought. Not too bad these wee Tuk-Tuk’s.
After a glorious day we started to head home and stopped off at Anstruther for a fish and chips. Again Tilly and Tuk’er got lots of attention from the many visiting tourist to the fishing village. All full, and tiredness starting to kick in we hit the road again, heading down into lower largo where we got lots of waves. Further down the road we decided to stop off at Leven to fuel up again. This gave us an indication of miles we would get per tank. After today we would guess 50mile comfortably per tank and probably 60-65miles at a push. As we hurled down the road and back into our village of Cardenden I remember thinking what a day! I think even the kids felt this way making us all even more excited for our adventure ahead.
